The Journey to Wellness

Before we dive into the nitty-gritty of wellness, let’s discuss why we’re all here in the first place. What fuels our quest for better health? To answer that question, I’d like to share a bit about my personal journey and my battle with fatigue.

It all began in early 2021, shortly after I left my corporate job to pursue my own business. My previous role as an account manager in the food and beverage distribution industry was demanding, with 14+ client meetings daily, a reliance on coffee and adrenaline, and no room for boundaries. When I transitioned into my own business and became fully booked, the relentless pace took its toll, and I found myself needing daily afternoon naps just to make it through the day.

The turning point came when I moved to a slower-paced coastal environment, and I realised I had a fatigue problem that needed attention. Consulting a naturopath revealed various deficiencies, including low levels of zinc, vitamin C, magnesium, and a poorly functioning liver. Surprisingly, low iron, a common cause of fatigue, didn’t show up in my blood work. This led to an array of supplements, kinesiology sessions, and even a visit to a chiropractor, each piece of the puzzle providing a glimmer of hope.

In April of the following year, I discovered a severe mould problem in my apartment. Despite rigorous cleaning, the mould kept coming back, exacerbating my fatigue. Simultaneously, my emotional health suffered, and I felt disconnected and emotionally drained in my relationships. The turning point was a trip to Bali in July, where I found myself in tears, eating a croissant in my bedroom, unable to fully enjoy the beauty around me.

The Healing Process

Upon returning from Bali, I moved to a mould-free apartment and began detoxing from mould exposure. However, my fatigue persisted, and I felt like there was a deeper issue. An unexpected Instagram message led me to Janelle, the owner of a natural deodorant company who happened to be a naturopath. Janelle introduced me to a compatibility analysis test, which analyses hair samples against 550+ different substances to identify food intolerances.

The test results showed I was intolerant to a wide range of food and products including gluten, dairy, sugar, and even some green vegetables. The initial transition was challenging, as I had to scrutinise every ingredient, make everything from scratch, and even give up coffee. But gradually, I noticed improvements in my energy levels, mental clarity, and overall wellbeing.

The Emotional Journey

Meanwhile, I also delved into emotional healing through EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), also known as tapping. EFT allowed me to reframe and reprogram my thoughts and feelings, addressing hidden anxiety and perfectionism that had been undermining my wellbeing.

As I approached the six-month mark, I felt better than I had in years. I had more clarity and was better attuned to my body’s needs. While I occasionally took naps, it was no longer a daily necessity. This journey taught me to listen to my body, and I continue to refine my self-care routines, ensuring I make conscious choices for my wellbeing.

Restoring Faith

The missing piece in my life became evident after I attended a Sunday service in April. The sermon focused on shame and blessings, highlighting the power of faith in God’s promises. I realised I had been excluding faith and spirituality from my life, attempting to patch my struggles with self-development knowledge rather than grounding myself in a deeper purpose.

In that service, I felt a profound peace that I hadn’t experienced in a long time. I understood that I didn’t have to bear life’s burdens alone, and that my self-criticism and over-analysis had been driving me away from love and faith. Surrendering my burdens and embracing faith became the final part of my wellness journey.
