Women’s Health Week 2024: Empowering Women’s Voices and Choices

Women's Health Week 2024

We are proud to stand with thousands of individuals across the country to support Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week, taking place from 2-6 September 2024. This annual event has become a vital platform for raising awareness about women’s health issues and providing practical resources to help women take control of their health.

The Power of Women’s Choice and Voice

This year’s theme is particularly powerful, focusing on the celebration of women’s choice and voice. For too long, women’s health concerns have been shrouded in shame, with many feeling unheard or unsure of how to express their needs. Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week aims to lift the lid on these issues, providing a space where women can confidently raise their voices and make informed choices about their health.

By offering free, practical health information and advice, Jean Hailes equips women with the tools and confidence to discuss their health concerns openly. Whether it’s navigating menopause, managing PCOS, or addressing more taboo topics like bladder leakage or painful sex, this week is about breaking down barriers and fostering open conversations.

New Resources for Women’s Health

This year, Jean Hailes will release a range of new resources designed to support women in their health journeys. These include a comprehensive nutrition guide, fact sheets, checklists, and tips on how to have effective conversations with your doctor. These resources are invaluable in helping women better understand their bodies and make informed health decisions.

Women’s Health Week 2024 Program

Each day of Women’s Health Week is dedicated to a different aspect of women’s health, ensuring that no topic is left uncovered. Here’s what you can expect:

Monday: Know Your Body

Understanding what’s normal for your body is the first step to good health. Monday’s focus will be on essential health checks, including bowel health, skin checks, and self-exams for the breast and vulva. Knowing your body means you can better recognize when something isn’t right.

Tuesday: Courageous Conversations

Talking to your doctor about sensitive health issues can be daunting. Tuesday’s program offers tips and tools to help you discuss topics like menopause, hormones, heavy periods, and PCOS with confidence. Open, honest communication with your healthcare provider is key to managing your health effectively.

Wednesday: Shame and Stigma

Shame and stigma often prevent women from seeking help for certain health issues. Wednesday will tackle taboos head-on, sharing stories and providing support for those dealing with bladder leakage, painful sex, STIs, and vulval irritation. This day is about empowering women to speak out and seek the help they need without fear or embarrassment.

Thursday: Point of Difference

Some health conditions affect women differently, and Thursday’s focus will be on these unique challenges. We’ll explore topics such as heart health, migraines, and pelvic pain, providing insights into how these conditions can be managed and treated.

Friday: Trust Your Gut

Nutrition is a cornerstone of good health, and Friday’s program is all about making healthy eating easier. You’ll learn the basics of nutrition and how to develop a healthier relationship with food, empowering you to make choices that support your overall well-being.

Raising Our Voices for Women’s Health
