Reminders over Resolutions

Megan

At the start of each new year, many of us set grand resolutions and goals for ourselves. However, as time goes on, we often find ourselves falling off the bandwagon and feeling disappointed. In this episode “Reminders over Resolutions,” I suggest a different approach: focusing on reminders rather than resolutions.

Change Happens in the Small Moments

It’s important not to overwhelm ourselves with unrealistic expectations. Instead, I encourage you to focus on the small moments that can make a big impact. Whether it’s finding joy in everyday experiences or making small choices that align with our goals, these small moments are where change truly happens. By embracing these small moments, we can live a more present and gratitude-filled life.

Progress is not always about big leaps forward, but rather the accumulation of small steps. It’s about finding joy in the journey and appreciating the small victories along the way. By shifting our focus to the small moments, we can create a more sustainable approach to personal growth and goal achievement.

Speaking Your Truth

Another powerful reminder is the importance of speaking our truth. As a recovering perfectionist and people pleaser, I understand the challenges of not being true to oneself. If this is also you, I encourage you to be honest with yourself and others, even if it means disappointing or inconveniencing them.

By speaking our truth, we create an environment that allows others to do the same. It fosters authenticity and deeper connections in our relationships. I hear you, it can be difficult to speak our truth, especially when we fear judgement or rejection. However, self-trust and standing firm in your worth is important.

This reminder is particularly relevant in today’s society, where there is often pressure to conform and please others. By speaking our truth, we honour ourselves and create space for others to do the same. It is a powerful act of self-care and self-expression that can lead to greater fulfillment and happiness.

Be a Maker, Not a Mocker

There will always be people who doubt or mock our ideas and visions. However, I encourage you to stay true to your vision and not let the opinions of others hold you back.

One of my favourite quotes by motivational speaker Trent Shelton is: “God gave you the vision. Why do you expect others to see it?” This quote serves as a reminder that our vision is unique to us, and not everyone will understand or support it. Instead of seeking validation from others, focus on being a maker and creating something meaningful.

It’s also important to highlight the importance of collaboration and celebration. Rather than viewing others in our field as competition, I suggest finding ways to collaborate and support each other. By celebrating the successes of others, we create a sense of community and foster a positive and empowering environment.

This reminder challenges us to overcome the fear of judgement and embrace our unique vision. It encourages us to be confident in our abilities and to create something that aligns with our values and passions.

Faith Over Faith

The final reminder I have for you is the importance of choosing faith over fear. Fear often holds us back from taking risks and stepping outside of our comfort zones but I encourage you to have faith in yourself and your abilities.

One of my personal experiences was overcoming her fear of social situations. By taking small steps and focusing on the impact I could make in just one conversation, I was able to gradually build my confidence. I want to remind you that progress is possible when we choose faith over fear.

Choosing faith over fear is not about eliminating fear entirely, but rather acknowledging it and taking action despite it. It is about believing in ourselves and our ability to navigate challenges and uncertainties. By embracing faith, we open ourselves up to new opportunities and experiences.

As we move further into this new year, it’s important to shift our focus from resolutions to reminders. I hope this offers you valuable insights into how you can live a more fulfilling and authentic life. By embracing change in the small moments, speaking our truth, being makers instead of mockers, and choosing faith over fear, we can create a meaningful and purposeful year ahead.
